lyrics

Words are skeletons
They’re all that’s left when you’re in the ground.
Some are used, some misconstrued
Some seek to be profound.

But skeletons don’t ever tell them,
How you’re really feeling
And words can fly as free as birds until they’re trapped.
Under a ceiling.

Am I beating my wings, on dusty things?
Like a bird in the attic?
Lost to the static indifference of the world.

And words are everything
They put a coin in a beggar’s cup, a crown on a king.
Some are slurred, some overheard
Loose lips sink ships and we drown
But painted signs that taint your mind
Tell you just which words you should sing.
But above the pines and the satellites
Their words don’t mean a thing.

Does that make you feel at all?
Make you feel small?
Or as tall as a mountain?
Are you beating your wings on dusty wings?
Like a bird in the attic?
Lost to the static indifference
Of somebody else’s skeletons?
